Sometime around late last summer, when I could feel the travel restrictions returning, and lockdowns looming once more, I uploaded my first YouTube video about adult coloring.
So, what’s the big deal about coloring anyway?
Well, any quick Google search will show you that it can help with anxiety, stress, and even improve motor skills. For me, I have found it to be a form of meditation. As an artist, I play with color, so this is another form of artistic expression.
Over December, I found myself “stress coloring”, as I would half jokingly say. As someone who does suffer from trauma induced anxiety, the lockdowns and restrictions have been especially challenging. Being able to “check out” with a coloring book and some markers have proven to be a lifesaver.
The added benefit is #colortube. This is an entire community of Colorists on Youtube, which I have happily been a part of for some months now. I have to say it has been the most kind and welcoming group of folks I have ever come across on any social media platform. We make videos about new books, art supplies and have color and chat time. We encourage and sometimes enable each other, but it’s all in good fun. There is a sense of community and interaction when we are all so isolated during these trying times.
Do I recommend coloring? Absolutely!
Grab your markers, crayons, and colored pencils, and join the fun!
