How Being Autistic Makes Me a Better Tarot Reader

There is often this stereotype about Autistic people “going down rabbit holes”, or having intense special interests. Now I know it’s not just Autistics who do this, but it’s a common feature that is attributed to us. Personally, I think it’s wonderful having such a deep interest in something that you want to learn everything you possibly can about it.

I have this with the Tarot.

I realize that Tarot is so deep and vast, it’s almost impossible to know every little thing, but I can sure try!

The Tarot and I have known each other for quite a long time and have deepened our connection through courses and self-study. It’s not just the book meanings, it’s learning how to trust and understand my intuition as well. I look at reading the Tarot as similar to telling a story, (which works because I’m a writer too). I also love that nothing is set in stone, we have the gift of free will, and are able to re-write our story whenever we want to.

I have learned to read people well, navigating life with a neurodivergent brain is a challenge, but there are advantages too. I have an abundance of empathy, and I feel people deeply. It helps me to be gentle and loving during a reading, and offering hope and encouragement instead of doom and gloom.

If you are considering a reading, but nervous about it, don’t be. The Tarot is just another holistic tool to tap into things that are already there. If done right, and with love, it can be a very empowering experience indeed.

Lots of love xo
